Alternative Semantics for Unawareness
نویسنده
چکیده
Modica and Rustichini [1994] provided a logic for reasoning about knowledge where agents may be unaware of certain propositions. However, their original approach had the unpleasant property that nontrivial unawareness was incompatible with partitional information structures. More recently, Modica and Rustichini [1999] have provided an approach that allows for nontrivial unawareness in partitional information structures. Here it is shown that their approach can be viewed as a special case of a general approach to unawareness considered by Fagin and Halpern [1988]. An epistemic model of an agent who does not reflect on reasoning processes
This paper introduces an epistemic model of a boundedly rational agent under the two assumptions that (i) the agents reasoning process is in accordance with the model but (ii) the agent does not reect on these reasoning processes. For such a concept of bounded rationality a semantic interpretation by the possible world semantics of the Kripke (1963) type is no longer available because the de ...
متن کاملObject-Based Unawareness II: Applications
Board & Chung [3] propose a class of structures (OBU structures) designed to model agents’ awareness of their own unawareness. In particular, OBU structures are capable of modeling an agent who is “not sure whether or not she is aware of everything”, without the implication that she does not know what she is aware of. In Board & Chung [3] (henceforth BC), OBU structures were used to provide sem...
متن کاملGames with Incomplete Awareness
A new game form termed games with incomplete awareness is defined. This game form captures unawareness as to other players’ actions, as well as unawareness of the existence of some players. It also captures interactive unawareness: the awareness of players as to what other players are aware of, and so on. The Nash equilibrium solution is extended to this game form and it is shown that every gam...
متن کاملUnawareness with "possible" possible worlds
Logical structures for modeling agents’ reasoning about unawareness are presented where it can hold simultaneously that: (i) agents’ beliefs about whether they are fully aware need not be veracious with partitional information; and (ii) the agent is fully aware if and only if she is aware of a fixed domain of formulae. In light of (ii), all states are deemed “possible”. Semantics operate in two...
متن کاملDeclarative Semantics in Object-Oriented Software Development - A Taxonomy and Survey
One of the modern paradigms to develop an application is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles in applications. In an application, we must distinguish between procedural semantics and declarative semantics for their implementation in a specific programming language. For the procedural semantics, we can write a ...
